SHIP is dedicated to being an effective resource for individuals with mental illness who seek appropriate housing and supportive mental health services. This has been our fundamental purpose for almost 30 years.
In recent years, the demand for SHIP’s Healthy Housing™ and recovery-based mental health services has increased significantly. In order to meet this ever-growing need, SHIP has a Central Intake department which serves as a single point of access for all applications and information.
As the application and information hub of SHIP, Central Intake:
- processes all applications – whether referred by family physicians, hospitals, partner agencies, family members and significant others or clients themselves
- manages over 10 different wait lists for housing units and mental health service provision
- provides a designated Intake and Assessment Counsellor for wait list applicants - to answer questions regarding admission criteria for SHIP’s Healthy Housing™ and mental health services and to provide additional information on other available community-based resources
Central Intake operates based on a “No Wrong Door” or “Every Door is the Right Door” philosophy. This open door service model is a welcoming approach that ensures all applicants are treated equally and no one is turned away based on eligibility or exclusionary criteria. We take individuals where they are at and help them to gain access to the most appropriate service to suit their needs and circumstances.
SHIPs Central Intake offers one point of access, assessment and referral to consumers (and potential consumers) of mental health services. Central Intake improves access to Healthy Housing™ and mental health services and provides an easier and more transparent process for system users.
All wait lists are processed and administered in chronological order - according to the original date of application. For a printable information and application form, follow this link to our Central Intake Application Form.
