Mississauga, ON (January 22, 2021) – Services and Housing In the Province (SHIP) is assisting the Region of Peel to open and support Brampton’s first COVID-19 Isolation Centre.

The voluntary Isolation Centre will be located in Brampton.  SHIP will be the primary service provider at this 24/7 Hotel Site. The Centre has been prepared to support all Peel residents to safely isolate.  Specifically, the Centre will support Peel residents if they have:

  • Tested positive for COVID-19
  • Symptoms of COVID-19
  • Had close contact with someone who has COVID-19 or has COVID-19 symptoms
  • Received a notification from the COVID Alert app that you may have been exposed to COVID-19
  • Returned from travel outside Canada in the past 14 days
  • Are instructed to do so by Public Health

The goal of this program is to provide safe, temporary accommodation to residents closer to home while they recover, while keeping their families safe. SHIP’s team will provide care and monitoring to support these residents and contain further transmission of the virus in our community.

“We are determined to support our vulnerable populations through this pandemic while adhering to provincial public health measures. Working as a collaborative and integrated team with our partners enables us to respond to this global crisis more efficiently and effectively compared to trying to respond on our own.  We are happy to be a part of a Region that invests in these types of essential initiatives” said Lina Termini, Director of Operations at Services and Housing In the Province.

As one of the leading providers of recovery, housing and mental health and addictions support services, SHIP continues to participate in community safety initiatives by providing critical services and resources. All partners will play a key role in providing holistic supports to residents, including basic needs, healthcare services and housing assistance. Together, the partners will form a unified ‘care team’ for the community.

“We must continue to take action to save lives to prevent our hospitals from seeing disaster and allow us to bring COVID-19 to a more controllable level to guarantee the success of our immunization programs. Only then, will we be able to reopen with confidence and minimize broader social and economic impacts that this disaster continues to have on our community” said Brampton Mayor, Patrick Brown.

The program is immediately available to anyone in Peel. Call the new intake line at 905-281-1269 or click here for more information.
