University Avenue Transitional Program is a 24/7 program that provides transitional housing for men, women and gender diverse individuals experiencing homelessness in the Region of Waterloo.
This program is located in Waterloo and is available to individuals who meet the program eligibility criteria.
University Avenue is supported by the Region of Waterloo and SHIP. It is owned and operated by the Region of Waterloo with SHIP providing the on-site services.
The program provides transitional housing and therapeutic supports for individuals in the Region of Waterloo and prioritizes individuals with the longest experiences of homelessness and the highest chronicity of need. The building has 80 units and is staffed 24/7.
Our goal is to adequately prepare participants with the tools and resources to succeed. To help us accomplish our goals we have dedicated specialists on site to provide flexible case management services to University Avenue residents that is focused on achieving goals as defined by them.
Supports provided by the program include but are not limited to:
- On-site therapeutic supports and programming
- Multi-disciplinary team with specialists in the areas of addictions, mental health, trauma, employment, hoarding, housing stability with physical health supports on-site.
- Person-centred life skills programming with a focus on developing resiliency
- Support with effectively connecting with other community agencies based on client goals
- Transition planning that includes aftercare and housing stability supports
