The Peel Family Shelter is a 24/7 program that provides emergency housing for homeless families in the Region of Peel.

This program is located in Mississauga and is available to families who meet the program eligibility criteria.

The Peel Family Shelter is supported by the Region of Peel and SHIP. It is owned and operated by the Region of Peel with SHIP providing the on-site services.

The program provides emergency housing and housing support services to families in the Region of Peel who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The building has 120 units and is staffed 24/7.

Upon being referred to the program, applicants will have a brief interview with an Intake and Diversion Worker to assess support needs and create a plan that will best address current housing crisis.

Supports provided by the program include but are not limited to:

  • Emergency Shelter Support
  • Emergency Food and Clothing
  • Support with seeking and securing safe and affordable housing
  • Support and linkages that will assist with financial needs (i.e. first and last month’s rent)
  • Support with seeking and securing employment
  • Support with effectively connecting with other community agencies based on client goals

To receive services, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a family (one or two parents/guardians with at least one dependent)
  • Must be experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness
  • Must be willing to work collaboratively with the Peel Family Shelter team
  • Priority is given to residents of the Region of Peel
