Frequently Asked Questions
Investing in community bonds, like any other type of investment includes risk. However, SHIP is a financially healthy organization and is in good standing with all current financing and funding partners. Investors should be aware that due diligence, assessing the issuer’s financial health, understanding bond terms, and considering economic conditions are essential prior to investing in the community bond.
Principal will be held for the term of the bond (ranging from three to six years). Upon Bond Maturity, investors can choose to redeem their principal or re-invest in a new Bond term that SHIP offers.
Each investment option has a minimum entry point for investors ranging from $1,000 to $25,000. There is no limit on the investment amount up to $4M which is the total raise goal.
Our community bond is open to investment from all types of investors including non-accredited / accredited individuals, corporations, foundations, and institutions. There is a residency requirement for individual investors as these individuals need to be Canadian citizens or have permanent residency status. All investors have to bank with a Canadian financial institution.
SHIP is managing the investment process internally with guidance by Tapestry Community Capital. Investments will be managed via Tapestry’s proprietary investor management platform, Atticus. Tapestry’s Investor Portal is a closed and encrypted system. All traffic between the client and server is SSL-encrypted with a signed certificate issued by a third-party certificate authority (COMODO RSA Domain Validation Secure Server CA). All database files on the server, where we store the data, are encrypted at rest. The server is hosted in a secure data centre in Canada. All data changes are logged in an audit trail and only key Tapestry staff have access to this data.
All SHIP Community Bonds will be secured by charges registered on 185 Lakeshore Road East, Mississauga, and 19179 Centreville Creek Rd, Caledon East, and held by a trustee appointed by SHIP pursuant to a Trust Agreement for the benefit of all SHIP bondholders.
