The centre has been prepared to support up to 40 people who have no permanent residence. The goal of this program is to provide temporary accommodations to individuals who are experiencing homelessness, and have tested positive for COVID-19. Our teams will provide medical care and monitoring to support these individuals and contain further transmission of the virus in the community.
We are determined to support our vulnerable populations through support services while adhering to provincial regulations including social distancing and personal protection equipment. SHIP Director of Operations, Lina Termini said “Working as a collaborative integrated team with our partners enables us to respond to this global crisis more efficiently and effectively as compared to trying to respond on our own.”
As one of the leading providers of recovery, housing and mental health and addictions support services, Services and Housing In the Province will continue to participate in community safety initiatives by providing critical services and resources. All partners will play a key role in providing holistic supports to residents, including basic needs, healthcare services and housing assistance. Together, the partners will form a unified ‘care team’ for the community.
The COVID-19 pandemic has critically changed the social landscape and it is important that we as professionals in the healthcare field join together to keep everyone safe.
BackgroundServices and Housing In the Province (SHIP) has operated as one of the largest non-profit supportive housing providers in Ontario for almost thirty years. Our organization has long been a champion of housing and is known as an innovative, responsive leader to vulnerable populations in the mental health and addictions sector.
After the announcement from provincial leaders in respect to the COVID-19 Recovery Program our team was asked to be part of this important service. Supporting the well-being of individuals in our communities is the foundation by which SHIP guides further development of housing and services and this pandemic has impacted our clients, staff, families and communities worldwide. Our strong community presence, responsiveness, varied housing and service options, commitment to diversity, quality and safety allow us to take a stance and has also earned us a positive reputation in the various communities we serve.
