The SHIP Assertive Community Treatment Teams supports individuals in the comfort of their own homes or a chosen place in the community while promoting community integration, providing psycho-education and advocating for access to healthcare services and vocational opportunities.

Serving communities in North Peel and North Mississauga, these multidisciplinary teams address ongoing complex needs with individuals who experience severe, persistent mental illness. We also assist individuals experiencing circumstances impacting their wellness such as homelessness, substance abuse problems, or involvement with the judicial system.

Admission Criteria:

  • Clients must be 18 or older, with no upper age limit.
  • Clients with serious mental illness that seriously impair their functioning in community living. Priority is given to people with schizophrenia, other psychotic disorders (e.g., schizoaffective disorder), and bipolar disorder.
  • Some other sub-populations are considered appropriate if they have been referred subsequent to unsuccessful treatment from a lesser intensive community mental health service.
  1. individuals with a primary psychotic disorder and a secondary diagnosis of personality disorder,
  2. individuals with a concurrent disorder with intractable psychotic symptoms,
  3. individuals with a dual diagnosis with a primary psychotic disorder,
  4. individuals with organic disorders (i.e. brain injury) with intractable psychotic symptoms.
Individuals with a primary diagnosis of borderline personality disorder, substance abuse disorder, or dementia are not the intended or appropriate client groups.
